b.fab engineers disruptive bioproduction technology
We combine electrochemistry with biotechnology making use of the most efficient technologies. In the first process step we produce formic acid from CO2, water and renewable electricity. In the second process step we use the liquid feedstock formic acid as substrate in our bioprocess using formatothrophic strains. Synthetic biology is applied to design synthetic pathways and to direct the formic acid into the desired bioproduct. In our laboratories we apply:
- Pathway design and engineering
- Miniaturization and lab automation
- High-throughput experimentation
- Advanced bioprocess development
Due to the utilization of well studied and industrial proven microbial hosts we can develop new strains and processes very fast.
Our technology is able to produce various value-added chemicals, single cell protein, amino acids and biopolymers.
