SUMMARY:7th BioSC Spotlight
DESCRIPTION:7th BioSC Spotlight – “Modular biotransformations in a circular bioeconomy” \nThe production of bulk and fine chemicals in a circular bioeconomy will be characterized by new process chains where biotransformations will play an important role. Biogenic raw materials will cover a wide range of qualities and quantities\, from perennial biomass to agricultural waste streams\, complemented by non-biogenic carbon sources such as CO2 or plastic waste. To deal with this broad spectrum\, the conventional „One substrate – one product“ way of production needs to be evolved to complex „Multi substrate – multi product“ process chains where classical chemical transformations and biotransformations are combined. Tailored biosynthetic pathways for the production of high-value compounds can be developed with the tools of Synthetic Biology. The entire transformation process also requires the development of integrated and flexible biorefinery concepts. In order to generate the highest possible added value and ensure the efficient use of raw materials\, a holistic process approach is of great interest. In the frame of the 6th BioSC Spotlight\, current developments will be presented and discussed by BioSC scientists and external experts.
